If you are trying to become pregnant, have unprotected intercourse five days before ovulation and on the day of ovulation. Ovulation happens in the middle of your menstrual cycle. Count the first day of your period as day one and ovulation happens around day 14.
As far as conceiving a girl or boy, it depends on the chromosome in the sperm.
