Hello Anonymous,
Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to us for help.
Postinor 2 is effective in preventing pregnancy if taken as soon as possible. It must be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. It is unknown if it will be at all effective if taken later than that.
So, taking the pill immediately reduces the risk for becoming pregnant.
Postinor 2 works primarily by preventing ovulation. Generally ovulation happens in the middle of your menstrual cycle. Most women ovulate anywhere between Day 11 – Day 21 of their cycle, counting from the first day of the last menstrual period. Ovulation can be calculated by starting with the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP) or by calculating 12-16 days from the next expected period.
Anonymous, whether Postinor 2 reduced your risk depends on when you had sex. Was it two weeks after your last menstrual period? Was it three weeks? Depending when you ovulated and had intercourse, the pill could have been most effective.
All that you can do now is wait. Any vaginal bleeding within three weeks of taking the pill will tell you that you did not become pregnant.
