Irregular Birth Control Questions

I have been on my birth control pills for the last three months. However, I was on vacation during the first week of my current pack and missed that week (June 19-26). We did have sex two days before I stopped, as well as two days after the week was over. I am unsure whether or not I ovulated. I am now on the last week of my pills and bled only one day this week. Could this be pregnancy related? If not, what does it mean if my period only lasts one day? I have been feeling very sick. Could this be birth control related? Thank you for any responses.

Guide

Hello ccphelps11,

Thank you for coming to us with your concerns. It is very likely that you become pregnant.

Missing the entire first week of a new pack of birth control pills puts you at risk. Having sexual intercourse at this time increases your changes of conceiving.

It is the constant level of hormones provided by a daily dose of active, hormone containing pills that prevents ovulation. Without that, your normal hormonal balance triggers ovulation.

Before you start a new pack, contact your gynecologist and report what has happened. Since this happened almost one month ago, a blood pregnancy test can be done.

Regards,
Maryann
