Q:

Irregular shedding of blood, what does this mean?

Hi,
I had protected sex with my boyfriend at the end of August (by then, it was during my infertile stage I suppose) and had my regular menstrual cycle a week later in September. I had my usual menstrual cycle again early this month although it was late for 3 days. Yesterday and today, I noticed some irregular shedding of blood (not a lot, only some spots on my undergarment and only if I wipe myself) and I am really worried of what this could be. I read somewhere it could be spotting, and early signs of pregnancy? Is it possible to be pregnant despite having 2 menstrual cycles previously? My boyfriend even pulled out before ejaculating. I'm just afraid it could have leaked out from the condom.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for your question.  If you had protected sex, it's unlikely you will be pregnant.  Other conditions can also cause changes to your periods or spotting.  Such as hormonal imbalance, stress, ovarian cyst and many other. It might be good to let your doctor know of the spotting if your period does not come.

Hope this was helpful?

Best,

Daisy
