Q:

Messed up my birth control

For the month of September I have been super busy and thus leading to me forgetting to take my birth control more than once. I have taken two pills about three times this month to try to catch up, and for some reason I'm already on the brown placebo pills but I'm not on my period…I am not using the pills because I am sexually active but because my period is very heavy. I have four pills left but there is a week left in the month. What should I do? I'm afraid I have harmed my body, even though I have not gotten sick, or that I've messed up my cycle. help!

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I can appreciate how being very busy can lead to forgetting to take a daily dose of your birth control pills. Thank you for coming to us for help, but I am going to refer you to your gynecologist.

Because the oral contraceptives were prescribed to regulate or correct a heavy menstrual flow, your doctor may have a specific recommendation for you.

It is possible you may be advised to finish the pack and wait until you have had bleeding before starting a new pack. Do check with your physician.

Regards,
Maryann
