Hi Anon,
Thank you for visiting the EmpowHER community to find an answer about fertility. I just want to clarify that there is no actual "free time" when it comes to trying to avoid getting pregnant. Unless you are able to pinpoint the exact time you are ovulating (which can be very difficult to do) you can get pregnant. With that being said, you are MORE likely to get pregnant when you are ovulating, which is typically on the 14th day of your cycle. Cycles and ovulation vary from woman to woman as well as from month to month. If you have a 28 day cycle, then I would predict (again, only a prediction) that you would have ovulated on the 31st of August.
To avoid an unwanted pregnancy, you should abstain from sex during ovulation and 3 days before and after ovulation.
To decreases the likelihood of getting pregnant and increasing your risk for STD's, you should use a condom each and every time.
I posted a link to a helpful article from the EmpowHER community about peak fertility periods.
