Is my late period stress induced or pregnancy?

October 13, 2009 - 8:38pm 166 reads 1 comments

I had sex (protected) with my boyfriend Sept. 8, and started my last period on Sept. 9. We left for college shortly after that, so haven't been together since. It's now Oct. 13, and I don't have any signs of a period. I've been irregular in the past, but not when I was sexually active. Since I haven't had sex this cycle, should I be worried? I've been very stressed with school starting again.

No, there wouldn't be a chance for pregnancy if you have not had sex after your last menstrual period. Kudos for having protected safer sex, also!

Your cycle can be irregular, and is nothing to be concerned about. Some women can have extremely long cycles (35 days between periods), and you are still within the range of what is considered "normal". Also, what is normal: a missed period. If you have two or more missed periods in a row (and there is no chance of pregnancy), then you can call your doctor, but one missed period can be normal when you are going through major life changes (starting college is one of them!).

I'm glad you found this site, and be sure to let us know if you have any other questions as they arise throughout your college years.
