So I’m on my period, but it came 3 days early. I thought it was implantation bleeding (I was in the midst of a pregnancy scare but it was a silly one since there was no fluid exchange nor direct genital contact) but the bleeding got heavier, the cramps are as bad as they usually are, the blood is bright red, and clots are present. However, I notice that my period is lighter than what i usually experience. I usually have to change my pad 3-4 times a day but now I only have to change twice a day (I still change 4 times a day for hygiene reasons). Today is the 3rd day of my period and I got a huuuge clot, about 3 cm in diameter, which I’ve never gotten before. Then the bleeding stopped. Is this normal? I’ve never had any kind of intermittent bleeding on my period before so I’m really weirded out. I read that implantation bleeding is intermittent so could it be that? (I’m a little scared because this period did come early however I do have clots, which aren’t supposed to be present in implantation bleeding right? Besides I couldn’t be pregnant without direct seminal contact, no?) Or is it another condition? Or maybe it’s normal? Please help, I’m sorry for my many questions, I’m only 17 and just Googling these things don’t work, the mixed answers are making me even more anxious. Thank you so much! (Ps: my usual period length is 7-8 days)

Hello Anon
Thank you for writing.
You can't be pregnant - you didn't have sex. Implantation bleeding is very light - not even enough to fill a panty liner, all told, and is seen well before a period is due.
It sounds like a normal period other than not really being what you expect every month, as it was shorter. But this is a period, with one large clot.
If you want to confirm this, take a pregnancy test.
