i first went to the doctor nearly a year ago with the same complaint he gave me a chest x-ray but that was clear. i did smoke but gave up 7 years ago.i have had this pain for weeks now it is constant and my gp gave me anti-inflamitores which haven't worked.the pain does go down my right arm and stops at my elbow.

I wonder if you have tennis elbow, which is a type of tendinitis. Swelling of the tendons causes pain in the elbow and arm.
Repetitive arm movements or gripping can lead to this.
Have you ever had an MRI of your arm? Such an imaging test can diagnosis tennis elbow or rule out other problems.
