Q:

Plan B?

I took Plan B exactly a week ago due to unprotected sex. I saw my calendar and it was during my fertile week, but my calendar did not state that I had ovulated yet. Now a week later the only symptoms are sore breast and light cramps here and there. Do I have to wait until my period comes which says that's in 10 days?

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I am glad you reached out to our community with your question.

Plan B prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. So, if you took it before you ovulated and within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse, it should work.

Yes, wait for your next period. One side effect of the pill is a change in the menstrual cycle. Your next period could start on time, earlier or later than expected. Usually, this is not more than by five days. Also, menstrual flow might be lighter or heavier than normal.

If you do not have any bleeding within three weeks of taking the pill, test for pregnancy.

Regards,
Maryann
