Hello. I'm late for a couple of days now and i'm confused if i may be pregnant? I did not engage in any sexual activity since my last period which is may 13. I have been having regular periods since march. No delays. Always on the 13th and now, nothing. I also have bleeding gums which i've read somewhere may be a sign of pregnancy. A week before my period on may 13 i had dry humps with my bf. So it possible that i may be pregnant?

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for coming to our community with your concern about a late period.

Pregnancy would not be the reason for the delay in the start of your period if you have not had unprotected intercourse since your last period. Dry humping does not lead to pregnancy because it is simply making out with clothes on.

There are other factors that can delay your period. Being under a lot of stress, such as studying for exams is one. Extreme increase in physical exercise, like preparing to run a marathon is another. Extreme weight gain or weight loss, illness, and a hormonal imbalance can all cause a delay.

If you miss your period this month, you may want to speak with your gynecologist or primary care physician, who can order blood tests to check your hormone levels.
