Hello,
I removed my nuvaring 36 hours early, on September 19th. I had had the ring in for 2 weeks, 5 days. Prior to that I had my previous ring in for three weeks and didn't take a week long break, just put a new ring in. So total time with medicated in was actuall 5 weeks, 5 days. I was 24 hours late getting it back in 7 days later (I got stuck on a business trip), ring put in September 27th. I had unprotected sex on the 28th. Concerned about that I took plan b 36 hours later. What is the risk for me? It's hard to find a straight answer just googling.

Guide

Hi anonymous and thanks for bringing your question to EmpowHER.

The risk of pregnancy from unprotected sex is about 20%. The risk of pregnancy after using a Plan B type of emergency contraception varies by when it's taken. If taken within 72 hours after unprotected sex, it can reduce the risk of pregnancy by up to 89%. If taken within 24 hours, it is about 95% effective.

Does that help and give you a more definitive answer? We wish the best for you.

Regards,

Pam
