Hi Im really freaking out and I really need some peace of mind, I can't stop crying about this. So, I started my period 2 years ago and it's always been irregular. This month my period came 2 weeks early. I normally have very long cycles of 40+ days. But this time it was 30 days. It also didn't last as long this month. It's normally 7 days but this time round it only lasted 4. It's been a week since it has finished and yesterday and today I have been getting brown discharge and mild cramps. It looks identical to the discharge I get just before I get my period. What could this be? Could it be due to the morning after pill I took in late April? Or could it be due to my cycle and hormones being all over the place? should I be worried? I haven't had sex, however I have engaged in other sexual activities such as dry humping with thin layers (fear of leakage), fingering (the hand could have had DRY Semen on), and oral sex. I have also been fully naked while holding a tissue with semen on and The idea of my naked vagina being near it really freaks me out and makes me paranoid that some could have got there or something even the the tissue didn't touch my vagina. I also used the same hands that had semen on to put my clothes back on and I'm just so so paranoid and upset. Could I be pregnant? Or is the brown discharge a sign of something else?

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I am glad you reached out to our community.

There are a few things you can do to take control over this situation, and hopefully get the peace of mind you are searching for.

Schedule an appointment with your gynecologist. It is time to find the reason for such irregular menstrual cycles. With blood tests to check hormone levels, obtaining a medical history and a physical examination, the physician can diagnose the cause and offer treatment. Oral contraceptives are often prescribed to regulate hormone levels and thus the menstrual cycle.

The appointment would be the right time to mention how this recent period presented.

I do not think you are pregnant. Brown vaginal discharge is old blood and not uncommon at the beginning or end of a period. It is blood that remains in the uterus.
