What could it mean if I have brown vaginal spotting for 9 days?

I have been TTC and keeping track of my periods for 3 years now which have been regular ranging from a cycle of 26-32 and no more. I ovulated on September 2nd, husband and I did the deed 3 days before and 2 days after ovulation day. Starting September 11th (9dpo), I noticed very light brown spotting which is still present. I am now 4 days late from my expected period, on cycle day 34, (18dpo) and have light discharge which looks like the egg white discharge with a tinge of pink. Today I recently began to feel strong cramping which makes me feel uncomfortable but is no where near as bad as menstrual cramping. My questions are, What could it mean if I spot for 9 or more days? Is this my period? Should I be worried?

Hello, I am back with an update about the 9 day brown vaginal spotting.

As I said in the previous message, I made an appointment with my Gynocologyst a week after this 9 day brown spotting event and found out I am in fact PREGNANT!!! I am now 4.5 weeks along and hopefully holding strong. An ultrasound was done but no visible sac yet. My HcG level was only at 435 on Monday, Oct. 13th. I go in again on Monday, Oct. 20th to see if my level has doubled or even trippled and another ultrasound depending on the results. My fertility calander says my next expected period due on October, 20th. Let's hope it stays away!

For now I am taking it easy and trying to relax. I have had a few moments of very light brown spotting and mild cramps but that's about it. I need all the luck and prayers I can get!

Thanks for your feedback!

The brown spotting continued till today but has turned into a dark red and brown mix. I beleive its my period but its very heavy with large clots and extremely painful. It's been so painful I actually have to curl up and I feel nauseous. I've made an appointment with my gynecologist this coming week to get some answers as to why my cycle was so off and why this one is far worse then all my periods in 2 yrs. I hope its nothing serious... Thanks again for your feedback! I appreciate it!

Hi Anon and thanks for your question.

Most brown vaginal discharges are harmless or a natural undertaking for women. Light brown discharges usually go away on their own after a few days. Dark brown discharges, however, can indicate an underlying medical concern. If you continue to experience spotting, and/or you have a dark brown discharge, your best action would be to contact your gynecologist to determine next steps.

Hope that helps!

Pam
