My father has diabetes. I am wondering about the difference between the two types, how they may impact your life and if the chances of getting diabetes increase with family history, or simply based on how well you take care of yourself.

Hi Hayden,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Type 1 diabetes, the pancreas produces little to no insulin.  Is usually sudden(acute) when a person goes to their doctor with symptoms of high blood sugar. Symptoms are increased thirst, urination, dry mouth, hunger, blurred vision and many other. Type 2 Diabetes, the body resists the effect of insulin or enough insulin. People with type 2 Diabetes are overweight. Hope this was helpful?

Here are some resources for you.
