IVF, in the most simple of explanations, means you are given hormones that help your eggs mature. Once mature, your eggs are removed from your ovaries and introduced to your partner's sperm in the lab. Once fertilization happens in the laboratory, the fertilized egg(s) are inserted (vaginally), in hopes that they successfully implant in your uterus for a viable pregnancy.

According to the EmpowHer Encylopedia on IVF (in vitro fertilization), "IVF is most often performed (recommended ) when infertility is due to:
* Damaged fallopian tubes
* Endometriosis
* Ovulation disorders
* Cervical factors
* Male factors, such as infertility , low sperm count, or poor quality sperm"

Do you know which of these factor(s) above relate to your or your partner's circumstances?

I hope you hear from women on this site who have gone through in vitro fertilization (IVF), in order to provide you with real-life experiences. What have your doctors told you is the reason for your and your partner's infertility problems right now?

There are many steps involved with IVF, and I am not sure what you already know... there are pages and pages of detailed information on this topic, depending on if you want to know the chemistry/biology behind IVF, if you want to know what is involved form the medical standpoint, or what medications you will be taking, or how your body will be feeling during procedures? Or, all the above?

Let's start here-- I have provided some web resources, that offer some basic information (you may already know this), as I am not sure the depth of your question or current knowledge on this topic. If you want to know step-by-step "What to Expect" with each procedure during IVF, the EmpowHer Encylopedia on IVF provides the best information. Other sources include:
- American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Infertility
- American Pregnancy IVF
- EmpowHer Encyclopedia on Infertility

Please read over this information, and let us know what further questions you have! You can also search the site for "IVF" or "in vitro fertilization" or "infertility", as there are some current research articles, as well as other women's stories. In fact, there is a study from 2008 on Adjunctive Acupuncture Improves Pregnancy Rates in Women Having IVF that may interest you.

Best of luck, and I hope to hear back from you soon!
