Recently, i've noticed that my inner ear has been very flaky and crusty. Is there any simple explanation for this and if so, is there a easy solution? Thanks so much!

I received a hydrocortisone liquid ear drop and doctor told me to take it for 10 days. It worked great for about a month and it came back. I recently went to the doctor with my daughter and after her check up, I asked him about it again. He said to get Vitamin E liquid and rub it in there. I will be trying this

I have coped with this condition all my life.
My ear canals that attach to the outer ears constantly
Host a layer of white skin that is thick and can be
Peeled off of the skin of my ear canals. The reason
For peeling off this thick white raised recurring patch
Of skin is because it itches. Once the skin has been peeled
Off, the new skin feels like it's on fire and does not itch.
In six hours, new skin has formed and the itching returns
With intensity. These patches of skin constantly being removed
By my fingernail show pour type raised areas that look
Like tiny bumps all over the surface of the piece of skin
That's been peeled off. The other side is very smooth.
Sometimes the removed patch of skin is almost clear and thin.
Other times it's thick and opaque with more pronounced bumps.
I remove two to four pieces of raised patches of my skin each day.
The skin underneath the removed skin tends to weep a clear liquid
Or occasional blood right after the skin that itches is removed.
I've learned that a dermatologist can prescribe a steroid to clear up
Sehborric dermatitis in the ears which is a skin disorder that
Is one incredible misery. Planning to try that. Apparently the
Recurrence of new skin that is a patch and is continues to flake off
On its own if it's not removed is a characteristic of sehborric
Dermatitis. After 44 years of suffering, it is helpful to know
That the overproduction of a certain kind of yeast on human skin
Is responsible for the ongoing presence of sehborric dermatitis in areas where ear wax is produced. Funny thing though is that my ears
Are too dry to produce ear wax and instead, skin that needs to be
Peeled off is produced instead. The topical steroid is supposed to
Prevent the production of ski created by the yeast that lives off our skin.

Try looking up seborrheic dermatitis, it's much more likely to be that. Doctors don't know what causes it and can't cure it. Treatment may make it go away but it may come back again.

There are many types of yeast in our bodies. Yeast is just a nice way to say fungus. When in abundance can cause many health issues , that are diagnosed as many things. Keeping the fungi in check can aliviate lots of things you didn't even know bothered you. Sad thing is to be treated for it you either must have a vaginal yeast infection, tinea versicolor, or be so sick they have tested you for everything else before being diagnosed. Try an antifungal on it. Since you were diagnosed with it I'm surprised they didn't suggest this. The Dr had me try Seldom Blue, the active ingredient in it is an antifungal as dandruff can be caused by the same thing. It cleared my skin up in a week, but made me real itchy. I then went to the beauty supply to find something milder. Tea Tree is also an antifungal, which I found a bar of soap with this in it, and seems to help, not as efficiently but doesn't itch. If you have some Tea Tree oil just rub a little on and see if it helps. If you have any Monistat left over in the tub. You can try using that topically as well. It is made for internal use, although I would not put it to far inside the ear canal to avoid the ear drum. If you find it helps then let the Dr know and maybe she'll give you an anti yeast medication you can take internally. If that helps and keeps coming back, it will need to be addressed internally, with good probiotics, supplements and adding things to your diet that help to kill it such as vinegar items. Eat some pickled foods everyday to help balance your alkaline levels. Cut back on foods that promote yeast growth, like raw sugars. (Soda and Candy). It can really damage the skin, at least try the antifungal soap and have it around to keep it in check, before the peeling starts causing scaring. I got it so fast on my face and took so long to diagnose, there is permanent damage. It can appear to be acne, and they just think your picking at it, causing it to be that way. When it really does go through a life cycle.

Hello Kelly McCarthy,

Ear wax buildup is probably the cause. A simple solution is to make a water/peroxide solution. In a cup, mix one part peroxide with one warm water. Using an eye dropper, draw up this solution and inject into your ear. Tilt your head to the side. Wait about one minute and tilt your head in the opposite direction. Do this over the bathroom sink. The solution will flow out of your ear.
Gently use a cotton swab or Q-tip to clean the outer ear.

Hope this helps,
