Hi everyone, I got a situation here. My period was suppose to come on 4-17-09. I was 4 days late so it came on 4-22-09. When it finally came on, it stayed on 2 days and thats not normal for me. My period usually comes on between 26-28 days. Before it came on, i thought I was having early pregnancy symptoms. I had all the signs, lower abdominal pains, lower back pains, sore breast, headaches, vomitting, etc. I have a 6 year old, but its been so long, i just forgot how it feels until then. Ok, is there still a possiblilty i could be pregnant?

I am a little confused as well. My husband and I are trying to conceive and we had sex close to ovulation. While i waited for my period to come I started to have systoms of pregnancy. April 25 was when my period was suppose to start and i bled for only a full day and a half. Then nothing. I started to have some pregnancy systoms. I was thristy and very hungry. Had to go to the bathroom ALOT more then normal, lower back pain and very tired all the time too. I was nausated for at least 2 weeks and i have never had this when i had regaular periods. Also i smelled things that were not there or no one around was eating. I was suppose to start my period on May 22nd but did not and i had nothing until today May 27 7 days later. It was not pink it was the color of blood. I am crushed but am still hopefull that I am pregnant. Can any one give me some advice on it they think i am still pregnant or not? It is memorial day tomorrow so i do plan on calling my OB to set an appt to get checked out. June is when i should have my yearly. Please help.

Hi, I am in the same situation and just came across this site. Did you ever find out what was causing all of this? Did you find out if you were pregnant?

I notice people are getting hung up on the word PERIOD. I think that when someone asks about having their "period" while pregnant, OR SAYS THEY HAD THEIR PERIOD WHILE PREGNANT, they are obviously referring to "bleeding". They don't know if it's an actual PERIOD or if they are just BLEEDING (especially duing early pregnancy). When they ask their question, there is no need to make it seem as though they are asking something completely ridiculous. It is UNPRODUCTIVE to get hung up on the words....your know what they mean! Stay blessed ladies :)

Women can 't have a period whilst pregnant, as in lose all their womb lining; they would miscarry, but they can bleed, spot or stain through pregnancy.

For what it is worth I thought that I would chime in with some information for people looking for answers. I appreciate seeing the many kind, supportive, and informative answers from members and guests. I am curious about Alison Beaver and anon (teenager I am guessing) that preaches about body awareness. There really isn't any need to attack people for asking a perfectly valid relevant question. It can also be dangerous to ignore a drastic change in your monthly cycle and just write it off as a strange period. It is good to have the awareness to question what is happening with your body. So I applaud those who ask a question and open up a venue for people to share information.
September 25, 2011 - 8:50pmNo one can tell you for sure, online if you are pregnant or not.
There are many reasons other than pregnancy that can cause a period to be late and short. It can definitely be a cause to seek a doctors advice. However, it is very common for a woman to bleed in early pregnancy. Here is a post from Oxford Journals: http://humrep.oxfordjournals.org/content/18/9/1944.full
The researchers that published this study found that 9% of their subjects had bleeding during early pregnancy; 84% of those women went on to deliver healthy full term babies. They were working with a fairly small sample of women so the statistics globally may be different, but it does show that this is a common phenomenon. If you are wondering if there is hope that you are still pregnant after experiencing bleeding the answer is YES. To all of you trying to get pregnant I wish you the best of luck!

Here's what I can tell you. Everyone on all of these sites seems to know someone who's mothers aunts brothers sisters cousin had 'periods' while they were pregnant. Here's the truth:
While it is posible to have bleeding or discharge appearing to be blood while pregnant, it is IMPOSSIBLE to have a period. A period is the body ridding itself of the endometrial lining of the uterus and the decomposed remains of the corpus ovum, or 'egg'. When this happens during a pregnancy, it is what is known as a miscarriage.
Bleeding and discharge during a pregnancy are almost always different than a cycle. For example, a shockingly large number of women don't have a clue as to the exact expected dates of their period (which is extremely lazy and irresponsible if you are regular and sexually active; get a handle on your reproductive health!) If you are irregular by more than a day or two, this is always an issue, but if you aren't, you should be able to window it dowb to 48 hours under normal circumstances.
The reason I mention this is that if you are paying attention to your bodily health, and have a 'period while pregnant' as most seem to call it, you will notice that the timing seems to be off, usually. A few days early in most cases, or even mid month. Sometimes, for no reason or without warning. There tends to be virtually no endometrial tissue at all when this occurs, for a good reason...the enometrium is not shedding, therefore, almost all of the discharge is blood and blood plasma. In addition, the look, feel, and smell of the fluid is almost always somewhat different. Yes, I realize that's gross, but you HAVE GOT to be more aware about your body than just looking and dismissing something like this as a gross or weird thing and going about your day. That is how we end up with these questions and misconceptions.
Another thing is your period...if if looks like it, feels like it, smells like it, etc., and the timing is right, then it is probably *gasp* your period. You should be more in tune with your body than anyone else, and whereas the menstrual cycle can have a wide range of variations from month to month, you should also have a pretty good idea of what falls in the realm of reasonably normal. If you don't, do yourself a massive favor and research the subject dilligently. It is your responsibility as a woman to know these things. Failing to do so could leave a serious health concern unchecked until it is too late to get help.
Lastly, a lot of women shoot off at the hip on these answers, and it's frustrating to those seeking good advice. Just because it happened to you does NOT make it normal, which also does not make it NORMALLY possible. About 1 in 1000 women will have vaginal bleeding while pregnant identicle to a short cycle once. The odds go up from there.
Unfortunately, some also post this sort of thing simply to scare the asker. Why? A nesting, TTC, or post-partem woman can be one of the most psychotic and unreasonable, irrational creature in existance (stop frowning, you know I'm right, you just don't like it). Also, some people are just mean, petty or cruel, for no good reason.
Here's the bottom line. To the OP, I know this is a long time coming, but chances are you either were not pregnant or had a fertilized egg that was flawed and didn't attach to the uterine wall, which delayed your cycle. This is common, has probably happened to every sexually active woman at least once, and is not medically significant. Do some homework, get a little better handle on you reproductive health, take a monthly mid-month pregnancy test at home, and enjoy the ride. You'll do just fine.
To the second poster, you were trying to offer future guidance and did the right thing, and asked the right questions. Well done.

I know this posting is old, but I did have bleeding every 4 weeks throughout my first pregnancy. At first, they didn't find his heartbeat and told me I was having a threatened miscarriage. He was fine, and the bleeding continued through the entire pregnancy. Each month, I would call the advice nurse, and she would have me come in for an ultrasound. They never did determine what caused the bleeding, as you obviously shouldn't have a period. During my second pregnancy, I experienced bleeding, although not every month as with my first. Both pregnancies carried to term and resulted in healthy babies. So, while it is technically impossible to have a true period when pregnant, for some reason, in my case, there was monthly bleeding.
