as a health professional self turned AIDS activist since 1983, I have tested and counselled lots of young infected boys and girls but mostly young women married and single. I always so the single ones doing better than married ones as they could then go on to choose to stop having sex until they met the right man or choose to use protection with partners from the time they leaerned of thier status.
Married young women had the dilema of how or who will tell the husband as they will be accused of bringing this problem into the house.
Most important issue which I saw work effectively,
Proper follow up counselling after being tested goes a long way in determining how the young woman handles herself from that time. You will off course get a few who decide that since they got infected they want to infect others, it takes a lot of counselling sessions to break this but with lots of support and a good listening ear this stage passes.
Young people are unpredicatable but can go on to reach hieghts they never imagined.
