Swine Flu has now killed dozens of people in Mexico and made several in the United States sick. Nearly 70 people are now confirmed dead in Mexico - authorities have closed all schools in Mexico City in an effort to contain the virus because close to one thousand people in that city are infected.
What is swine flu?
Like the human flu and bird flu - it's a flu virus, but one only usually seen in pigs. People working on farms or in barns or pig trading/selling/exhibiting arenas, where direct contact with pigs is seen are vulnerable to becoming infected, although there are also cases of person-to-person infection.
The eight people in the United States have since recovered but students in a New York school are being evaluated for the virus since they have all exhibited symptoms that are similar in nature to the swine flu. Results are expected within days. This current strain of swine flu has authorities particular worried since it is showing to be resistant to drugs.
Symptoms of swine flu include those similar to bird or human flus - fever, body pains, loss of appetite, weakness, vomiting and diarrhea. Symptoms can be extreme.
Have you heard of this particular strain of flu? Do you worry about travel to or from Mexico?
