What do sharks and breast cancer have in common besides being the title of my blog?
Some sharks get aggressive and will attack a human instead of eating a seal or other fish. Why? Who knows but evidently seals and humans look alike to sharks. Or it is the luck of the draw that some poor soul happens to be in the water the same time a shark is really hungry?
Our body is composed of many cells. All it takes is one cell to mutate to form cancer. Why? Who knows but sometimes environmental, or heredity influence the mutation. Or is it just the luck of the draw that one crazy cell goes haywire and mutates to cause breast cancer?
So are breast cancer cells circling your body like sharks in the water? Could be. Genetic factors, age components or unknown factors can act like chum in the water for sharks.
Has the sound track from Jaws start to go through your mind? Have I painted a grizzly picture? I hope not too much because there are ways to stop the sharking.
You wouldn’t go into the ocean if you knew there were sharks off shore. Similarly you wouldn’t take risks with unhealthy lifestyle practices that can result in cancer like smoking and drinking.
You wouldn’t feed the sharks if you thought you could fall into the water. Likewise if you have a family history of breast cancer you would not take HRT and would follow screening preventative guidelines.
You wouldn’t go into a shark cage and open the door-waving chum. Similarly you wouldn’t put off a yearly mammogram.
This October think about breast cancer as the great white shark from Jaws and your bigger boat is preventative care.
You still hear the music from Jaws? Good. Schedule that mammogram!

I absolutely love this! What a great spin on helping us with preventative care. The Jaws music will be playing until I schedule my appt. Your strategy worked!
