Arthritis occurs in several forms and involves inflammation of joints accompanied by pain, swelling and stiffness. The most common type is osteoarthritis, the "wear and tear" arthritis that usually affects the knee or hip. Autoimmune conditions cause rheumatoid arthritis, while dietary habits or bacterial infections cause gout or infectious arthritis.
