Award Presented at Honorary Luncheon with Fellow Award Recipients Dr. Richard Carmona, Former Surgeon General, and Marla J. Weston, PhD, RN, President of the American Nurses Association
Scottsdale, AZ, November 16, 2009 – Michelle King Robson, Founder and Chairman of EmpowHER, a health media company for women, was awarded the Arizona State University (ASU) College of Nursing & Health Innovation’s Discover Award on November 10, 2009 at the Sheraton in Downtown Phoenix.
Other award recipients included Richard Carmona, Former Surgeon General, who received the Dream Award, and Marla J. Weston, PhD, RN, President of the American Nurses Association, who received the Discover Award.
According to Bernadette Melnyk, Dean of ASU’s College of Nursing & Health Innovation, King Robson received the Discover award because she “embodies our college’s vision to Discover new ways to educate the public and healthcare professionals about women’s health and evidence-based care.”
Of the award, King Robson said, “My personal health crisis lead to the creation of a health media company that in just 18 short months has provided millions of women access to the health information and resources they need to improve their health and change their lives.” “Being recognized by so innovative a University system and included among so distinguished a group is both a personal honor and validation that necessity remains the mother of invention.”
The luncheon also acknowledged the dedication of the new five-story, 84,000 square-foot Nursing and Health Innovation building, which occurred earlier that day. The annual awards were launched at the College’s 50th Anniversary Gala celebration in 2008.
