The most important factor is diet but there is a catch, according to the University of California the commercial diets that most of us are using do not work for any real weight loss. It is was shown in the study that we are not reversing the inflammatory fat which is what we must do to lose weight.

Hi healthtrainer

I think this question may have been answered for you already in the ASK section of our website.

But you're right, there are different diets that suit different people - "diet" meaning way and style of eating, not food restriction.

But to answer your question in the title - yes, food restriction (as opposed to exercise) is the quickest way to lose weight initially but slower weight loss is better and lasts longer.

Some people like a high protein diet - other live better on a live diet like vegetarianism. I know someone doing a "blood group" diet right now (each blood group has a special kind of diet) and it is actually working very well!

I think everyone has concluded that the fresher the diet, the better, meaning avoiding processed foods as much as possible and watching out for salt and sugar content.

It's a trial-and-error process for many.

Also, keeping portions small and often works better than a couple of very large meals every days. This can also ensure a larger variety of foods and the more color in the diet, the better. Brightly colored fruits, vegetables and salads are great for all aspects of health.

Has this helped?
