Why Local & Seasonal?

By March 21, 2012 - 5:28pm

Great group! Becoming familiar with local and seasonal foods is so important and can really help save the world! It's good for the environment, your community, your local economy, and is more fresh and more tasty (among many other benefits)!

I actually wrote an article on the subject :)

What's your reason for choosing local &/or seasonal?

I totally agree Susan, thanks for the comment!

Great group!

The farm down the road from us has a huge fruit and veg stand that we buy from in summer and autumn. I can't wait for it to start up again.

We use it for many reasons: the prices are really good. It's grown in front of us, using the safest anti-pest treatments possible. We get to chat. The kids get to take a look around the farm; - saying hello to the chickens, cats and dogs and looking at the horses. it's very casual and friendly. And really handy since we stop there on the way home.

And of course - it's the healthiest food possible! All fresh - and freshly picked - fruits and veggies.

Haha, I'm also a bit of a farm hugger & couldn't agree with you more!

Here's another resource published yesterday about Community Supported Agriculture, for those looking to learn a little bit more about how to get involved:

Danielle, I'm sort of a farm hugger if you will. I believe strongly that food grown close to home provides the highest nutritional and nutrient bang for our buck. I'd like to get this message out to more people and have them start to look to their local farmers for their food supply once again.
