Why do I think I can have one and it never ends up being just one?

Smoking has been my biggest weakness I ever had to deal with in my life. I have quit MANY times.... Why do you think you can just have one and that will serve your craving while in a social group and by the time you are on your way home, you are picking up a pack from the local gas station?

Has anyone found a way to be with smokers, without smoking?

When I quit, I had to remove myself from smoker friends. For example, my smoke break buddies from work ended up a friendly but fast "hi!" in the parking lot - it was too tempting and the little terrors actually enjoyed taunting me!

I think you may have to minimize hanging out with smoker friends until you know you have your addiction under control. It doesn't have to last forever but until you have a handle on things - you'll just have to do it. And if they are your real friends, they'll not only support you, but stop smoking around you for now and never give you a cigarette even if you ask.

Good luck - I know first hand how awful this addiction is.
