Coffee and your Thyroid Medication

UGG, I know you don't want to hear this, but did you know that coffee consumption can interfere with your medication absorption? So can many other things . . . are you taking your medication on an empty stomach and not consuming anything for an hour? If not, check out this article!

You know, I have had doctors almost laugh out loud at me when I mention brain fog. They just don't get it!

No, it is not a "normal part of aging" to tell your son to put his juice in the stove, or to tell your niece to hand you a pumpkin when you are staring at napkins. . . I don't care what they say!!

At least my hubby now understands that there are good "brain" days and bad, and he will even say, "Ok, it is a foggy brain day so just point for me" and he says it lovingly, so I know he gets it only because he has had to live with it.

The only time it was not funny (but is when I retell it!) is the first awareness booth I did I told him about this woman who had lost ALL of her hair, and I told him we were talking about thyroid disease for over an hour. His response? "How did you guys communicate? Sign Language?" ha ha ha, he had a point but at the time I was not impressed, but pretty funny comment that at least I know he understands :)

Yep, I would be lost without my smartphone... it really helps me remember stuff. My brain fog is pretty bad so every little bit helps!

Me too! My phone is forever going off with "reminders" but if I didn't I would forget everything!

We have to do what we have to do. . . :)

I actually do do that. I have alarms set throughout the day for my various meds and supplements. For example the thyroid glandular I take at 6 am and then I go back to bed. So, when I get up and get my coffee ready, it's usually 7-7:30.

It's pretty bad... I have alarms set at 6, 8, 10, 12 noon, 2 pm and 10 pm because some have to be taken with food and others between meals. I save my calcium, iron supplements and my reflux med for the 10 pm time so that there is less likely to be absorptions issues with the thyroid supplement.

I hear ya imsdac!

I have heard of people setting their alarm an hour earlier to take their meds, then going back to sleep. . . doesn't sound great but at least then you can have coffee right when you wake up :)

Or have you tried taking meds in the evening? Some people have liked that too. . .

Good luck working it out! he he I have sadly had to make a "list" of when to takes things so that nothing interacts. Not the life I planned, but sure better than how it was a few years ago of having no life!!
