Dr. Ruderman:
Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease in which more than one joint are involved and so the symptoms would be pain, swelling, stiffness, redness of several joints, typically symmetrical on both sides of the body, typically hands, wrist, sometimes knees, often feet.
One of the very common symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis is morning stiffness. People with rheumatoid arthritis will get up in the morning and it will take them one, two or three hours before their joints feel ready to move before they feel as good as they are going to get for the day.
