Dr. Barba:
So herniated disc can be fixed with minimally invasive surgery, and now there’s a number of different ways to do that. Traditional ways would involve a small incision in the back, which is a technique I use. That surgery takes approximately 60 minutes and the patient is able to leave the hospital same day or the next day. But yes, minimally invasive spine surgery is a very good treatment for herniated discs.

In 90% of the patients a herniated disc treated with minimally invasive spine surgery will be out of the hospital in less than a day, would be able to be back at their usual job within a week or two. So the recovery time is very short and much shorter than traditional open operations.

Minimally invasive spine surgery for herniated disc is a covered procedure. It’s well accepted, and your insurance will pay for it.
