VIDEO: Dr. Berger - What Is Acne?

September 30, 2008 - 12:29pm 239 reads comments

Dr. Berger introduces himself and explains what acne is.

Dr. Berger:
I am Tim Berger from the University of California, San Francisco; Department of Dermatology.

Acne is a non-infectious inflammatory process of the hair follicle that affects a huge percentage of the population. It is caused by plugging of the hair follicles and an overgrowth of bacteria and it occurs only in the setting where there is oil on the skin.
