Dr. Berger:
Yes, women with polycystic ovaries frequently are hyper-androgen. So, they have excess male hormone relative to the amount of female hormone they have and that causes them to have acne. It often causes them to have excess hair growth on the upper lip, chin, centered chest, and in the pubic area and that is often a more specific marker for that syndrome.
