Dr. Harness explains what a woman's breasts should look like after a double mastectomy.

Well, double mastectomy without immediate reconstruction, I feel strongly about this that the skin should be down flat. I have seen mastectomies where the surgeon is just getting the breast tissue out of there and leaving all sorts of skin. It’s kind of ugly and wrinkled on the chest wall. You can’t fit a prosthesis in the bra properly. It’s a mess, frankly.

My strong view is that if you are not having reconstruction, you want the skin down flat on the chest wall so that a prosthesis can be used should you choose to use one.
