VIDEO: Dr. Harness - Invasive Ductal Breast Cancer, What Are The Warning Signs?

Dr. Harness discusses the warning signs of invasive ductal breast cancer.

Dr. Harness, M.D.:
The typical warning sign of an invasive ductile cancer is a lump in the breast. Women worry about nipple discharge as being a warning sign of a breast cancer. Again, greater than 96 percent or higher of patients with breast cancer actually don’t have a nipple discharge, a bloody nipple charge. When we think of abnormal bleeding, we always say that’s a warning sign for cancer. Typically on the breast, a bloody nipple discharge is from a benign process, not from a cancer.

However, if a woman is having a spontaneous nipple discharge that is either bloody or clear, then she really needs to have that worked up diagnostically to make sure there isn’t a cancer there.
