Dr. Harness shares the positive and negative aspects of oncoplastic surgery.

Dr. Harness, M.D.:
Well, there are two kinds of oncoplastic surgery. One is the reshaping internally of the breast when we do lumpectomy, and the pros of that is you get a better cosmetic outcome. And we believe that the mammograms are better when you bring the internal tissue of the breast together so that the, down, down the road mammograms are easier to read by the radiologist.

So that’s one of the pros of oncoplastic reshaping of the breast. Frankly, I can’t think of a con. You know, there really aren’t any downsides to doing the procedure, other than the fact the surgeon may not know how to do it.
