Dr. Horwitz:
A rheumatologist is a specialist in joints and muscle diseases and now also in osteoporosis as well, that’s become their purview as well. So rheumatology is the primary, the primary caregiver for autoimmune conditions of the joints. There are gastrointestinal inflammatory bowel diseases, most notably Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis that are treated by gastroenterologists. Interestingly, they share some of the same newer drugs to treat both conditions even though it crosses specialties.
