VIDEO: Dr. Matava - ACL Surgery, How Long Does It Take?

Dr. Matava introduces himself and describes how long anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery typically takes.

Dr. Matava:
My name is Dr. Matt Matava. I am an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and the co-chief of the Sports Medicine Section at Washington University of Orthopedics. I am also the head team physician for the St. Louis Rams and assistant team physician for the St. Louis Blues. I did my orthopedic training at Emory University in Atlanta and I have been doing sports medicine for the past 15 years at Washington University.

It takes about an hour for the most part, a little bit longer if you have to do other concurrent procedures, but for the most part about an hour. It’s an outpatient operation. Patient is usually able to leave the hospital or surgery center within about three or four hours.
