VIDEO: Dr. Mullis - After A Pelvic Fracture, Should Women Discuss Sexual Limitations?

Dr. Mullis describes if it is important for women to discuss their sexual limitations with their orthopedic surgeon after a pelvic fracture.

Dr. Mullis:
Yes, I would. After any type of pelvis fracture, I would talk to your orthopedic surgeon about having sex and if it’s safe to do so. The great majority of the time, it is safe. The times it might not be is for the really high-energy pelvis fractures that need surgery, and many times I will limit patients for about six weeks after I have done surgery to make sure that there’s no problems from the surgery itself.

Dr. Brian Mullis, M.D., is the Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma Service and Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopaedics in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine. He has a special clinical interest in orthopaedic trauma and post-traumatic complications with a focus on pelvis and acetabulum fractures, peri-articular fractures of both upper and lower extremity, bone healing, nonunions, malunions, deformity and post-traumatic infections.
