Dr. Shaw:
Botox, or botulinum toxin, is used to eradicate facial lines caused by facial expression, most often in the glabellar area, or the lines between the eyes, or the crow’s feet on the lateral eyes. There are other areas where it can be used effectively, in the forehead or perhaps small lines on the nose and even into the lower face at times.

What Botox does is it blocks the neuromuscular junction, which is the area where the nerve and the muscle meet. It acts almost like a child safety-cap to a wall outlet where the Botox can be viewed as the safety device and, so when the nerve stimulation comes down it can’t really excite that muscle and the muscle activity, after the Botox is injected, will be weakened for a period of anywhere from three to six months.
