VIDEO: Gloria Feldt - Should Birth Control Be A Civil Right?

October 28, 2009 - 5:42pm 58 reads 0 comments

Gloria discusses whether or not birth control should be considered a woman's civil right.

Gloria:
It’s a fundamental human right to be able to decide for ourselves about childbearing; whether to have children; when to have children; with whom to have children. I mean, that is just a fundamental human right, and to take that human right and then realize that in the legal system it’s necessary to create civil rights laws that legitimate the human rights, that’s where I think we need to head next.

I think we have been arguing about the finer points of birth control and abortion and sex education for far too long. I think the American public is sick of that and is really ready to move on to something that’s more reasonable and rational, and the reasonable and rational thing is to create a civil right that enables women to not be discriminated against when they choose to have children or when they choose not to have children.
