What Are The Treatments For Parasomnia? - Dr. Wolfe (VIDEO)

Dr. Wolfe:

Sleep study with EEG monitoring and video monitoring is the best way to diagnose a parasomnia.

In people that have parasomnias due to an underlying sleep disorder, we always treat that sleep disorder first, such as restless legs or obstructive sleep apnea. In addition, we would look for any stresses in life that could be altered, like a bad sleeping environment or noise in the sleeping environment. If none of those things impact the parasomnia, medications, specifically benzodiazepines, are the first line therapy.
