Donna Simon, M.S., R.D.:
Attend support groups. I can’t focus on that enough. We do offer three support groups here a month.

The first Tuesday of every month is a nutrition one, the second Wednesday of every month is an exercise and the third Wednesday of every month is psychology and we get a large draw. It’s not just from our program; it’s from programs throughout the valley.

Support groups are important and especially exercise. You can’t do one with the other. Calories in have to be calories burnt so you need energy-in, energy-out to equal out so you definitely need to exercise.

Support groups are so helpful because you can’t do it on your own. You have tried diets in the past and they haven’t work. You need the support.

Even if it’s a support group of a family member or a friend or colleague or someone, the chat rooms are great support if you can’t make it to an actual support group.

So support groups are important, I mean because you just can’t do it on your own. I have seen people try and not be successful.

So I have found support groups are very important and even at my support groups that’s one of the comments they will tell the newbies, as we call them, please attend your support groups, they are helpful.
