Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question.

Postinor 2 prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. It is intended for emergency use only. It is effective if taken within 72 hours of contraceptive failure, like the condom broke.

Anonymous, why did you take the pill before intercourse? You should not use it as a form of birth control. When in your menstrual cycle did you take it? If ovulation had already occurred, there is a lesser chance the pill will work.

All that you can do now is wait. If you have vaginal bleeding within the next three weeks, you know it worked and you are not pregnant. If you have no bleeding in that time, take a pregnancy test.

Anonymous, if you and your husband are not ready to have a child, please start using some type of birth control on a daily basis. That includes condoms, birth control pills, an IUD or the Depo-Provera injections.

Regards,
Maryann
