II'm glad I read this because I have had the mirena iud for 1 year and it has definitely ruined my husband and I's sex life. He wasn't understanding of why all the sudden I was never in the mood. While reading I am not the only one he now gets it. Thank y'all I am scheduled to get my iud out next week. We shall see. I will update my sex life from there lol

Got the Mirena taken out today after three years and replaced with a copper coil. I've had no sex drive at all. In fact wouldn't be bothered if I have had sex again! Thank god my fiancée has been understanding, he has actually asked if I would prefer it if we are just friends!
Doctor was quite supportive but family planning clinic not so much, the lady who did my consultation sniggered and said a 'so copper coil for you with no hormonal side effects'.

The lady who did the procedure today was great though, she said of course having hormones that are not your own could cause reduced sex drive and it would be the first place to start to get my 'va va voom back' - her words!!!
But if it doesn't work they can offer counselling.
She said it takes 4 days for the hormones to come out of your system - so roll on Sunday I say! I'm waiting to put my relationship back together!

I have had my Mirena for almost 4 years, before I got mine I was happy, spontaneous and always loved making love to my husband. Now I just get annoyed with his touch, dorky humor and sex seems like a chore. You are not alone, I am thinking about getting mine removed I feel like it makes me grouchy and not myself :\

My best friend had same problem it's the mirena brand iud with hormones I recommend para guard no hormones it worked for me. As soon as you get the mirena out sex drive will all come back . Yeah baby. Sex is back lol. We can't add more hormones I think us women have enough and that obviously with everyone's experience here we see it disturbs the natural process. Hope this helped.

It is comforting to read these comments. My girlfriend has lost all interest in sex and she basically told me this last night in bed. She gets annoyed now if I go to cuddle her or even kiss her. I felt so hurt and feel rejected. She said she thinks it might be the coil that is making her this way. I am so confused and don't know what to do. Are there different types of coils as I am only see the Mirena type mentioned on here.

I posted the previous post. You are not alone. We are having ours removed in February. I hate that it is this far way, but that is when she could get in. I even had a vasectomy in preparation to have this removed. I am now fully convinced it is the IUD. I just hope that her drive returns after removal. It is a pickle of a situation to be in. God wants me to learn something though.

I really want to see a follow up of one who has gotten off of the mirena and if it helped the situation. Upon reading this I am not real hopeful:

I also want to know if it affects just sex or all intimacy such as closeness, hugging, kissing, etc.

Thanks!

It's interesting that the health professionals seem to be dismissing all the associated symptoms that everyone on here and other sites are discussing! I'm a nurse myself so not sure why the docs are so adamant that the symptoms are not connected ?! I had mirena inserted 2 months ago and have definitely lost my mojo! I felt that previously my ability to get wet was something to be celebrated. Now I can't even get wet through any sexual activity. I feel like I have been stripped of all sexuality. I am having a consultation with a gynae doc tomorrow with a view to getting it removed. Mirena may be a functional form of bc but it is preventing me from having any fun.
