Had mirena inserted January 14 and in a year we had sex only 3 times. Before mirena and a baby 19 months ago we used to be very sexually active.Had mirena removed 2 weeks ago as I didn't feel myself with it and boom! I made love with my hubby already twice this week and could do with more.So mirena never again!!!!

Oh boys! After reading the first couple of pages I grabbed my cell and called my doctor for an appointment. While on hold I continued to read the stories that I could have written myself! I'm on my 7th consecutive year with a Mirena (first inserted June 2008, and replaced May 2013). Only in the past few months have I begun to attribute my symptoms with the IUD. I have NO sex drive. None. Zilch. Nada. Absolutely non-existent. I feel so sorry for my fiancé. I do my best to encourage and reassure him that he is not the problem, but I know it's hurt his confidence in the bedroom. Getting wet is a chore and a half! I am dealing with irritability, anxiety and depression like never before, especially since the insertion of the new one in 2013. Life is just very "blah". I have no lust or passion for anything, really. I've been blaming life for my emotional turmoil, but perhaps there is more to it than that. I finally have a glimmer of hope thanks to the stories shared here. Thank you! Best of luck to all, and I will post an update after my appointment : )

OMG I feel like you are me writing this post. I too had my 1st one put in August of 2008 and replaced July 2013. My first 5 years were ok. I thought having two kids 11 months apart and pressures at work was the culprit but after the 2nd insertion something definitely changed. I am so so irritable, indecisive and moody that at times I really think I am suffering from a mental disorder. Sex drive? what's that and I feel so so bad for my husband. I can't take this anymore and I am really thinking of making that call my hesitation is I don't want to get pregnant. I fear any other BC because of my experience with the IUD. Let us know how things worked out for you.

You seriously took the words out of my mouth! I don't reply to these things online, EVER but this is so accurate to my life & my problems with the mirena! I've always thought it was me until I read all these posts online about it! I actually had mine removed today and I'm hoping all this mess will go away! Fingers crossed!

Hey, my girlfriend just got Mirena insterted. We have had sex twice since the procedure, after waiting a week of course, and her sex drive is gone. When she said this during sex it ruined it for me and I stopped and she said "what's wrong... I'm still having sex with you. Nevermind, keep going." And I stopped. I couldnt cum. She thinks it might just be temporary but I am worried it will be this way as long as she has the device. I read online that <5% of users in clinical trials experienced decreased sex drive. She said that the nirse never told her that decreased libido was a possible side effect. Looking for info and advice. Please help.

Get it taken out. The sooner the better. If you read through all the posts here, you will see that the longer it stays, the more your relationship and all that it means will be severely endangered.

Apparently it doesn't do this to everyone (though I suspect that it causes problems for a much higher percentage of users that Bayer or her doctor says), but for those who detect this problem soon after it is inserted, it does not get any better.

Yes, i do agree with the impact on sex libido but one of the reaseon is the sharp drop in estrogen, so i ak my wife to drin soy milk & within few days her libido start to come back again, the hunger feeling reduced sharply, the mood swinging reduced. But becarful not to increase estrogen too high, just keep it within normal range.

Good luck

Levonorgestrel (Mirena) is a hormone. A progesterone.
