Well, I have been searching all over for answers to why I have no sex drive. I have had the Miranda in for almost 4 years. I've had no periods which is great but have had problems with pain, and I guess I'm thinking this is causing my lack of sexual desire. I'm 30 and shouldn't have this problem. It's causing concern for me and my husband. I want to have it removed of this is the cause, I'm alittle scarred. Is there much pain with it being removed? I had alittle pain with it when it was inserted.

Barely felt a thing here either! OB's do these all the time. Going in is worse. Don't worry.

My Mirena hurt going in. I chalked it up to being the first patient in which my midwife inserted Mirena. I love her, and I am understanding, no biggy. Waited the full 5 yrs to have it removed. Had mine removed 2 months ago, and barely felt a thing.
No pain afterwards.

It is about as painful to get removed as it is to get inserted. I have had my Mirena out now since the 14th of Feb. I haven't noticed a huge difference in my sex drive.. maybe just a little easier to get turned on. Before I didn't even want to be touched let alone be turned on. Also.. all together I gained a total of 35 lbs using the mirena. my Diet and Exercise never changed. I am active now as I was 6 years ago. I am SO relieved to have this removed!

I had Mirena inserted for the first time 6 years ago. It was great - loved it and never had my period which was an added bonus. I have always been able to have 1-3 orgasms during sex (I've been very happily married for 19 years). Last April, I had it replaced (it had been 5 yrs since first inserted). By June I was having trouble having even one orgasm. It was awful. I've had trouble with anxiety in the past but it seemed as the months went on, it got worse and worse. I finally had it removed about 3 weeks ago. I don't notice a difference in my ability to have orgasms yet, but I'm really hoping it comes back. I've been exploring reasons for all of this. My mom and aunt both went through menopause at 45 - I will be 41 this month. So, is my lower libido due to hormonal changes? Anxiety? The Mirena? It's a guessing game that I'm still trying to figure out. I'm not convinced the Mirena was the cause but time will tell. Now my issue is trying to figure out a different method of birth control. Anyone have any opinions on that? Was wondering about Nuvaring - ??? Thanks!

I have had the Mirena for 4 months now. I was having horrible periods(heavy and clotting) and my doctor recommened the Mirena. After reading all the comments I know I found my problem. I have also been experiencing the same problem. I am a plus size woman and have gained 5lbs since October. I initially was worried about the placement due to my husband and I are trying to have children(none so far) but my periods are very irregular. Since the insertion in October, I have had NO PERIODS. I consider myself very sexually active and my husband and I only do it once a week. It is horrible and ruining our sex life. I have an appt on March 15th and will be getting the Mirena removed. I am very moody and dont want to be touched. I know all our symptons on this Blog are the same. I wish there were directions and side effects given to me before the nightmare began. NO MORE MIRENA

Wow! I was wondering if my Mirena was the issue with my lowered sex drive. I used to have quite a high sex drive, and now it's completely non-existent. I thought for a while it was just that I was wore out with being a new mom, full time student and part time employee, but then I started wondering if it could have something to do with the Mirena too. I know for a fact it caused me to have carpal tunnel, a side effect the company that makes Mirena does not recognize, but many women complain of getting after receiving the implant. I want to get this little sucker removed, but after reading some of these comments I'm a bit scared of the "transition" period.

Hey there, I had the mirena for 2 years I just had it removed Feb 4, 2013. That thing lowered my sex drive, caused so much abdomin pain, pain during and after sex, it made me very just bitchy and I stopped crying which I read that that happened to someone else on this thread.. Crazy I know. Well I've had it out for 2 weeks now and I don't have the random abdominal pain. The first few days I had no motivation I'm slowly getting it back.. It's a transition just like anything else in life.. You do what's best for you but think about the long run and the possibilities of that awful thing possibly migrating and needing surgery.. Best of luck to you darlin.
