Hey, ladies. I did have the iud for 5 years and gotten it replaced with a new one about a year ago. My first wasn't bad, but this one is horrible... My selfs steam is so low because I keep getting BV because i'm imbalanced. My sex drive is almost nonexistent and I know it's affecting my relationship with my husband. I'm almost 30yr we have 1 child together, and I'm just not ready for another. Any advice?

P.s: he says no condoms were married, and I am terrified of needles.

I'm so happy to read all these comments. I just had my yearly G exam and told my Dr that I had no desire to have sex. She said it's probably due to my busy life and the fact that I'm dealing with the grief of my father passing away. She also, advised me to take a supplement "Maca". Now I'm reading these comments and realize that it's probably the Mirena. I'm using the Mirena because I have a irregular and heavy periods. Is there something else I can use that have low hormones? I'm 41 and do not plan on having anymore children.

I'm the one who wrote the comment on 18th October. I have had removed my mirena on 26th October. And yesterday we finally had sex and you can call it SEX. It was amazing, like i didn't have sex for ten years. I really felt it. I can say like the first time! And I was the one who started. And I was the one who asked not to stop. :-)My HB was amazed.
Just to remember: Before with mirena every time we did it, it was almost like rape for me. It bothered me all. For almost five years this way. :-( Thanks to my HB for being so patient.
Removing my Mirena was the best decision of my life!

I have had the mirena for about a little over a year. Within the past year I have noticed that my sex drive has dropped dramatically. I'm only 22 years old. I wasn't sure if there was something wrong with me or if I just wasn't into it anymore in general. Also my partner used to be able to feel the strings attached and has asked me if I had it removed due to that he couldn't feel it anymore. I'm currently going to get it removed with the next two weeks. I have seen warnings on TV about how it can also cause us women not to be able to have children. Does anyone have a good suggestion of birth control to use. I prefer not to use an iud.

At this moment i am underage and have made a few bad decisions and have had a misscarage 2 months ago. So of course my moms talks to my ob and had this damn mirena put in me. my boyfriend who will be 19 tomorrow lives with me and ever since this damn thing was put in our sex life is like non existant and we have had some fights but non that were dramatic. you see before i got pregnant, sex was a big deal in our relationship and im not talkin about like one night stand sex im talking about makin love. I now have 2.5 years left to go until i am 18 and the day i turn 18....the mirena will no longer run my life. I am so happy that i have found this page because now i don't feel so alone. I just want to say thanks to whom ever made this page because u basically just saved my life and my relationship. Thank you to all of those girls out there who have shared your stories. They were very inspirational.

Tell your mom that you need to take it out and show her this web page. Your boyfriend can wear/use a condom and there is also 'the pill'; keep in mind, the pill is not one pill. There are thousands of pills out there and you should be able to find one that is accepted by your body (biology). If your ob cannot find one, change ob. The Mirena IUD is not for everyone. My wife had it put it 4 years ago and is now in here 5th and last year. The IUD seems to be weakening as my wife is finally starting to be more normal/like she used to be. We had a hard time for a long time and it almost broke us up. This product is not for everyone and not for us; it's been a nightmare. You are young and need to be more careful with your body. Take control and hope you are wise enough to take advise from others but more importantly, look after yourself.

OGM you did actually saved my life and my marriage. After five years of searching for causes of low sex drive i found this page. I think i'm going to cry. It is NOTHING wrong with me....In this years of searching i sometimes did suspect the Mirena IUD, but when I have asked my G. she told me that this is IMPOSSIBLE. And now I'm reading your words. Can't wait to hear my husband to tell him that we are going to take this "hell thing" out of me...and that every thing will be ok.
Thank you so so much for sharing your experiences. Love to all of you ladies. Byby

Wow so excited to find this page! I about to go into my 5th year of my mirena and I think I'm going to get it out ASAP! I got my mirena literally a few days within dating my now husband and our sex life was great! Within a year of havinging the merina my sex drive has dropped dramatically! I'm 25 he's 36 and newly married to my handsome husband and I just have no desire for sex. I know it makes him feel like crap am it causes a lot of aurguments and underlying problems. I'm talking to him tonight about taking it out. We don't want children right now so we'll have to talk about other birthcontrol options! I'll have to keep you updated! Also the Mirena has caused horrible mood problems! And weight issues! But I think all birth control methods with hormones have the same problem. Well I'll let you know!
