Hi, I've posted before about my horrible experience with Mirena. If your'e looking for new birth control, the Paraguard Copper IUD is good, it's what I had before Mirena. It puts out no hormones, I never any problems with it. It's like it wasn't there. They can become dislodged as with any IUD, but no hormones!! No weight gain, and most important, I always had plenty of sex drive. I'm mad at myself for letting the dr. talk me into getting Mirena. I wasted 2.5 years of my life being miserable with that thing in me!!

I'm 19 and have the Mirena IUD. I currently have no sex drive and its been over two months since the insertion. I was fine before the insertion and ever since I got the decreased sex drive my relationship has gone down the drain. It puts more sexual frustration on my boyfriend, when for me I could care less because I can't seem to even get in the mood. For my age I felt like I had something wrong with me and so I started to read others blogs. I just wanna know if there's possibly more to this problem?

I wish I would have found this 5 years ago cuz I couldn't figure out why I didn't want it anymore. My 5 years was up today so I went to get it taken out and got put on the shot instead and a half our later I wanted it. It's not worth ruining a relationship!!! It is the Mirena!

I have had my mirena for 5 weeks. I got it when my daughter was 12 weeks old. In the 6 weeks between my all clear to have sex and mirena we had sex at least 3 times a week. Since mirena my sex drive has plummeted! My friends think it is bc I have a 4 month old and two other kiddos but o don't think that is the case! I couldn't even wait until my 6 week post baby check up to make love. I started researching to see if it was something that tends to get better with time but it is not looking that way!

I've had the Mirena for 3 years now and I am getting it removed TODAY! The insertion hurt a lot & I kept having terrible cramps (worse than contractions) months after I got it inserted, I still spot every once in a whole and I hate it! I'm out somewhere and I just begin to spot and Im unaware! I thought my period would of stopped completely, I had bad mood swings and everything irritates me, but worse of all, I have COMpLETELY lost my sex drive, my husband and I used to do it multiple times a day but after having the Mirena inserted I don't dont get the urge for sex, we have time alone in bed, and go out on dates, and everything is perfect, I just CANT get in the mood, and mostly all the time I'm on top it hurts now, like if he is going way too deep into my stomach, I hate this because I want to be ale to get in the mood and make love with my husband, so we agreed on getting it removed, it's been imbalancing my hormones for way too long and we are actually pretty excited about going back to condoms after years!! so we will see how that goes :)

Did you get it removed? Have you noticed any changes? The one thing this thread is lacking is follow-ups.

I first had the IUD back in May 2006 after my son was born, I went the enitire five years before getting it swapped for a new one (only to find out, people in europe, keep them in for 7) in the beginning I noticed a lot of symptoms-sex? forget about it, I just simply didnt want it anymore-caused a lot of issues in my relationship, I also had difficulty losing the baby wieght. Towards the end of that 5 years, all of a sudden my sex drive came back and I was happier-was it because the hormone was now not as strong? It has now been 3 weeks since I had the new one inserted, and I am feeling the symptoms like I did the first time-Back to no SEX DRIVE, DEPRESSION/ANXIETY (if this is a normal thing for you, it may increase due to the IUD) and mood swings. I cannot stand having something in my body that can keep me from being myself-its coming out and were just gonna have to try other methods. Good luck to those of you who are experiencing the same stuff.

Wow! For the past five years I thought I was going crazy. I'm a 51-year-old female who had the Mirena IUD inserted five years ago. Up until that time I, like many others who've written on this site, had a libido that was through the roof. The Mirena was great in that my extremely heavy periods stopped but it's only now, about six weeks after having it removed that I realize the Mirena may have been the cause of my non-existent sex drive. With my libido slowly making a comeback, I finally put two and two together and decided to do some research on low sex drive and the Mirena. After reading many of your comments, all I can say is, WOW! I'm enjoying having my sex drive return and to having an orgasm for the first time in years!
