Q:

Bleeding after sex?

I bled after having sex on Monday, so two days ago. It is about time for my period to come, but my boyfriend and I have unprotected sex. We are trying to have a baby. I have not bled since that night. Could I possibly be pregnant? Was that my period?

Hi Anon,

Thank you for being a part of the EmpowHER community and sharing your question.

With it being so close to when your menstrual cycle is due, I'm inclined to say it's probably your menstrual cycle.  Does your menstrual cycle usually come like clock work?  Or does it fluctuate a bit?

The bleeding you're experiencing, would you characterize it similar to your normal cycle (color, lite or heavy, number of days, cramps/no cramps?  Perhaps you are experiencing irregular menstrual cycle.  Here is more info on that:

What Is My Cycle Telling Me?

Do you think you could have suffered injury to the vaginal wall or opening to the vagina opening during intercourse?

Typically, the absence of bleeding is a symptom of pregnancy, so I would initially rule it out and explore other possibilities with your doctor to be on the safe side.

Reasons for Vaginal Bleeding

For your health and also since you are trying to have a baby, I would go get checked out.

Be well,
