I was told the lupus rash is caused by an allergy to the sun, which is a symptom of the disease. And, yes, it can appear on your legs. For me it is worst on my arms, back and chest but I have gotten it on my legs, too.

Like person above me ...it is an reaction to sun...certain lamps can do same thing....but yes i have it other places than my face.
October 14, 2011 - 9:35amBUT...you should have dermatologist check it out because it could be so many other things. Many things cause rashes....and once we have had lupus a while we get to know how lupus rash feels vs poison oak one or just sun rash feels...even than....it is good idea to let your dermatologist check it out..discoid lupus gets rashes/sores anywhere on body ..want to rule out that maybe that is actually the kind of lupus you have...bad but does not affect your internal organs.
If you have SLE , dermatologist should e part of your team....so might as well see one and have him as part of your treatment.

Do you know the cause of the rash? Could it be an allergic reaction to a food? Or it might be a contact dermatitis caused by an irritant that came in contact with your skin? Have you consulted your physician?
