Can you get bacterial vaginosis (BV) through fingering?

If you get fingered often, can you get BV?
Also, what would an "abnormal" odor for vaginal discharge smell like?

thank you! I was wondering how strong of an oder this may be, and what is considered a "normal" smell for discharge odor?

Yes, you can get BV through fingering-- the reason for this is that bacterial vaginosis is caused by a disruption of the normal balance in the vagina. There is an overgrowth of harmful bacteria that occurs and therefore can lead to BV. You partner washing his hands can help prevent BV through fingering though there is no guarantee that you will never get it this way. The more common causes are through unprotected sex, douching, new or multiple sex partners, using an IUD as birth control and smoking.

Discharge from BV is usually: white or grey-ish in color, thin, and has a fishy smell, especially after sex.
